WHERE Uganda
Summary
Uganda is a major transit hub for Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) and suffers large-scale bushmeat poaching on a domestic basis.
This project uses existing intelligence to integrate pro-poor policies for park-adjacent communities alongside anti-trafficking objectives, removing drivers of wildlife crime locally whilst simultaneously targeting convictions higher up the IWT value chain.
Outputs will be implemented via 'best of breed' partnerships with international, national, and local organisations with expertise in livelihoods, human wildlife conflict (HWC), crime analysis, legal and intelligence skills.
Over 600 arrests and more than 500 convictions in wildlife crime since 2017, alongside a decline in ivory trafficking cases and an increase in elephant and rhino populations.
