Summary

WWF-UK and our Indonesian partners, the National University’s Centre for Islamic Studies, and NGO Yapeka, aim to protect tigers, birds, primates, pangolins and bears targeted by poachers in Rimbang Baling Wildlife Reserve, Riau, Sumatra. We test an innovative approach to stemming the illegal wildlife trade in poor Muslim communities in RBWR buffer zone, combining support for sustainable livelihood activities to improve security and replace lost IWT benefits, and awareness raising of the first Islamic edict prohibiting wildlife trade
