We test an innovative approach to stemming the illegal wildlife trade in poor Muslim communities in RBWR buffer zone, combining support for sustainable livelihood activities to improve security and replace lost IWT benefits, and awareness raising of the first Islamic edict prohibiting wildlife trade
Over 600 arrests and more than 500 convictions in wildlife crime since 2017, alongside a decline in ivory trafficking cases and an increase in elephant and rhino populations.
