Summary

Trafficking rhino horns is a form of organised, sophisticated crime that requires professional institutions’ assistance to examine the flow of illicit funds. The South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI) has asked KPMG to assist with investigating a major criminal network and provide the evidence needed by the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Prosecutions Directorate and Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) to secure convictions. Lessons learned will be shared with selected rhino-rangestate agencies and via international financial taskforces.
